Unjoined Corten Steel Garden Rings for Existing Trees
Create a clean, defined border around an established tree without trying to lift a completed steel ring over the trunk and canopy.
Redcor unjoined Corten steel garden rings are supplied open, allowing the steel to be positioned around an existing tree before the ends are aligned and joined. Pre-drilled holes, pre-fitted connector plates and supplied pop rivets make assembly straightforward.
Manufactured in Melbourne from durable 2mm Australian BlueScope steel, these circular garden borders are ideal for tree surrounds, raised garden beds and landscaped features. The steel gradually develops the distinctive rusty brown patina associated with Corten steel.
Why Choose an Unjoined Garden Ring?
A fully joined ring can be difficult or impossible to install around a mature tree with a wide canopy. An unjoined ring solves this problem by allowing you to wrap the open steel profile around the trunk and complete the join after it is correctly positioned.
- Ideal for Established Trees – Position the open ring around an existing tree without lifting it over branches or disturbing the tree.
- Simple On-Site Assembly – Pre-drilled holes and pre-fitted connector plates help align the ends correctly.
- Connectors and Rivets Included – The required connector plates and pop rivets are supplied with the ring.
- Strong 2mm Steel – Provides a durable circular border for mulch, decorative stone, soil and planting areas.
- Melbourne Made – Manufactured locally from Australian BlueScope steel.
- Natural Corten Finish – Develops a distinctive rusty-brown patina through exposure to the weather.
- Low Maintenance – No painting, staining or ongoing surface treatment is required.
- Residential or Commercial Use – Suitable for home gardens, landscape projects, courtyards and public spaces.
What Is Included?
- One pre-formed 2mm Redcor steel garden ring supplied unjoined
- Pre-drilled fixing holes
- Pre-fitted connector plates
- Pop rivets required to complete the joins
You will need a suitable pop-rivet gun to complete the assembly. The ring has two joins, with the connector plates already positioned to assist alignment.
How to Join Your Redcor Garden Ring
Place the open ring around the tree or installation area, bring the ends together and align the pre-drilled holes with the connector plates. Insert the supplied rivets and secure them using a pop-rivet gun.
Available Diameters and Heights
Redcor unjoined steel garden rings are available in two practical diameters:
- 1150mm diameter – Suitable for compact tree surrounds, circular garden beds and landscape features.
- 1530mm diameter – Provides additional space around larger trees and creates a more substantial circular garden bed.
Choose from eight profile heights:
- 100mm, 150mm, 185mm, 230mm, 290mm, 390mm, 590mm & 800mm
Lower profiles are ideal for defining tree surrounds and retaining mulch. Taller profiles can be used to create prominent circular raised garden beds and feature planters.
Ideal for Tree Surrounds and Circular Garden Beds
Redcor unjoined Corten steel garden rings can be used for:
- Installing a border around an established tree
- Containing mulch and decorative stone
- Creating circular garden beds
- Forming raised flower or vegetable gardens
- Creating landscape features within lawns
- Commercial landscaping and public spaces
Choosing the Right Size for a Tree
Measure the space available around the tree before selecting a diameter. Allow enough clearance between the trunk and steel ring for future tree growth and avoid building soil or mulch directly against the trunk.
Tree roots can extend well beyond the canopy. Take care during ground preparation and avoid cutting major roots. If you are unsure about installation around a valuable or established tree, seek advice from a qualified arborist.
Understanding the Corten Weathering Process
Your ring may arrive with a dark-grey raw-steel appearance or may have already started developing its natural patina. Exposure to changing weather conditions gradually transforms the surface into the characteristic rusty-brown Corten finish.
Some surface run-off may occur during the early weathering stage. Take care when positioning a new ring near light-coloured paving, rendered walls or other surfaces that may be susceptible to staining.
